Competent Planning – The Four Cornerstones
This is where a digital tool such as Mindjet MindManager comes into play. When creating a MindManager map keep the following four cornerstones of good planning in mind.
There are four crucially important cornerstones to effective planning that can bring the greatest chance of success…and here they are:
The first and foremost question to ask yourself is whether or not the plan is easy to understand. And in any and all cases, can it be simplified even further to make it even easier in the name of managing time effectively? What this means is looking at the way in which each step of the plan communicates both its instructions and its objectives, which must be in a way that every single person following the plan can understand. If the plan is complicated and cannot be interpreted, you have no plan at all.
Next, you must look into whether or not the plan is specific – as in whether the objectives and goals are concrete and defined. Any vagueness makes it impossible to purposefully vie for the goals as the goalposts themselves have not been defined. This may include things like a concrete budget, a final list of those involved, a full timescale to facilitate managing time effectively and a clear definition of who is in charge of what.
When the plan is taking shape, it’s crucial to take a further look at how realistic both the goals and the processes are. It’s not good enough to work with a ‘maybe’ as this leads to the casting of aspersions and the doubting of the outcome. Managing time effectively and making successful plans means being 100% realistic, reachable and measurable.
And finally, is every single detail covered in the plan or have you actually produced nothing more than a vague proposal? This is where the difference is made as it is only when your plan includes every single necessary element that it can be brought into action with confidence.
